Arroyo Grande, Pennington Fields -
On Saturday SLOYouthRugby U18 Boys team won its opening round match 52 - 5 for the first ever 'California Cup' State High School Rugby Championships. Playing against Polytechnic HS from Eagle Rock the SLO Barbarians completely dominated the larger team from the opening kick off. Lead by (2) scores each from Justin Goodman and Nate Nunno, Nunno at scrum half and Goodman from the wing, followed by scores from Matt Phillips, David Nord, Derek Cummings and Teddy Engdahl; Colin Nichols and Justin Goodman both converted 3 trys each.
Following a solid game plan to make the other larger team turn and run to the breakdown, quick ball and passing out to the wing the Barbarians scored from everywhere on the field. Continued solid play from the forwards secured ball from the scrums, lineouts and rucks for the back line who passed and kicked well on the day.
